Fracture Me
By Tahereh Mafi
Really debating if I should even write a review on this book because well, it actually did nothing for me.Â
The absolute best thing about this is Julliete and Kenji's friendship. It really cemented for me how good of a person he is, and how loyal he is towards the ones he cares about. He never once stopped caring about her and everyone else and pulled himself together to lead in a way that no one else could. Â
Adam on the other hand. Wow. I actually have no words. For the past two books, I have been trying to convince myself that there is more to him, that he really cares about Julliete, and that he is a loyal and kind person. Even though I have liked Warner more from the start, I have always tried to feel sympathy for Adam and look at it from his perspective. This book threw that all out the window though, I have no more patience for him anymore.
One thing, I understand that he cares about his brother, I truly do. James has been his lifeline before he can even remember, and he feels responsible for him. So I do not fault Adam for being protective and scared for James's life. However, he was entirely selfish in every other way possible.
First, he basically calls Juliette a child and says that she is a weak link who will kill all of them. That she cannot and will not fight. EXCUSE ME??? THAT GIRL IS MORE POWERFUL THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD?? Actually, how dare you, she has saved his life and a ton of other peoples lives a million times. And saying Kenji wasn't "one of them" just because he has a hard time stomaching seeing people die was actually so gross.
Second, he demonstrated that he actually does not give a single crap about Juliette. After she got captured, he never brought up a rescue mission to save her, never said that he was upset, only that she would be safe with Warner, which he actually has no idea. Kenji is the one who pushes to go back for her, which Adam shuts down because of how much of a coward he is. (Really pissed me off how he basically called Kenhi and Juliette cowards but reacts like that when things get hard.)
Third, at the end of the book when they all make it to Adam's old home, he does not bring up any plan to rescue or save her, Kenji is the one who does. Not only that, he has to CONVINCE Adam to save her, which is just actually insane. He even says that he has mixed feelings about saving her, which is just actually disgusting. When he was captured Juliette did everything she could, broke down a door by its hinges, and shot Warner just to rescue him. What a coward.
At the end of the day, I think this book's whole point was to make us dislike Adam so that we could move on to Warner, and if it wasn't the point then I am going to be seriously concerned. I think it's important to read just so you can get a feel of how Adam really is, and see what happens to the gang during the battle. Its also awesome to see our baby boy Kenji be amazing as always. It's very short, only about 60 pages so really why not read it?
Sorry this was definitely more of a rant than a review but I genuinely had big feelings about this book lol. Plus it was too short to do a normal review layout.
